We always pop into the powder room to ‘refresh’, but what if that powder room needed a little refresher too? Well, that was the case with our main floor loo.

We have a small powder room on our main floor. Being the only bathroom on the level means that even though small, she is mighty. This little bathroom gets a lot of use, but taking a look at these quicky photos taken back in 2015 when we moved in, you can see that it was rather um… uninspired.

The paint was the same drab beige and dark eggplant that I worked tirelessly to eliminate on the main floor last year (see how it refreshed our kitchen and family room here). So, painting the powder rooom was an easy decision. I used the same paint as the rest of the main floor – “Toasted White” by CIL (which I had colour matched to Behr Premium Plus Ultra: paint & primer in one – my favourite).

I had previously (not shown in the ‘before’ photo) put up some frames on the wall behind the toilet, but wanted something a little more interesting and dynamic. Ideally, I was hoping for shelves as I knew they would add some good visual interest and I’d have flexibilty to swap out decor for different seasons and holidays.

So, this what the same space behind the toilet looks like now.

Fresher and brighter right!?

The shelves were a major find when I came across them at HomeSense. I loved the texture, colour and finish. And, they were the PERFECT size Oh, happy day!

The shelves currently are styled like the photo above, but I had so much fun dressing them up for autumn and Christmas. I found keeping the items light (white, cream etc.) and using “natural” (ceramic, stone or wood) tones worked best here. So, I used seasonal and holiday decorations that had those qualities to keep the same aesthetic.

I found the hourglass and faux potted plant at HomeSense. The wicker ball was from my stash of decor items.

I love the texture on this pot!

Can you believe I found the above pot at Dollarama!?

This second little faux plant is from Ikea – it’s the “fedjka” plant with the “socker” pot (in white). The frame is also from Ikea – “Sondrum” and the quote is something I found online and simply printed out (I can’t find it anymore though – sorry).

Gah! so cute! Also from HomeSense

Looking into the powder room from the hall, you see this angle (the room is really small so it has a pocket door).

I didn’t do much here except update the art – again found at HomeSense. I didn’t replace the towel rack or toilet paper holder, nor the vanity, mirror, faucet or lights. They are dated, and not our style, but hey, they are clean and functional and for now this is a “refresh”, not a ‘redo”. It would be nice to renovate and update those elements some day, but we have other bathrooms that need more attention than this one, so she’s going to have to sit pretty for some time.

For now though, I am loving how these simple updates have freshened up this small space.

I used another small HomeSense faux plant on the vanity. And, if anyone is looking for a natural, chemical-free odor removing spray, this Fresh Wave one is amazing! I love the smell and it doesn’t mask odors, it helps eliminate them organically. So great!

On the other side I have the basics – Everyone hand soap (THE BEST), hand cream and a candle.

Sometimes it’s the smallest changes that can make the biggest difference. This little update had gone a long way to making this part of our main floor feel brighter and more updated!
