Today I am back to share with you, our new kitchen table and chairs. Some of you noticed the change in my last paint reveal post (good eye!). The change was a long time coming, but Linden moving out of his highchair was really the catalyst for the switch.
So, to back it up, the current glass topped table that we had was from WAAAAY back (2001) when I moved out and bought my first apartment (pre-ChefKev days). It has gone through some transitions over the years (like when I recovered the chairs here) but recovered or not, cloth chairs with small kids are a no-go. So, a few years back, I bought some Eames Eiffel chair knock offs and we continued on.
Aesthetically it wasn’t quite right, but the price was and the chairs were easy to keep clean so it worked for the time being. However, the legs stuck out and we constantly stubbed our toes, and as you can see, two chairs for a family of four, does not a functional dining area make. Linden was growing out of the high chair (shown in the right of the photo above) so we were constantly pulling chairs from the (formal) dining room and cramming around the small table. I should mention here that ChefKev is 6’5″. Oy! Cramped!
So, after a bunch of research and design texts to my friends (ha!), we upgraded. Here is how the same space looks now.
The table we chose is the “Bradding” table from Pier 1 Imports. The colour is called “Stone Wash”.
It’s 42″ round which is a lot better suited than the 36″ table we replaced.
The “Stone Wash” colour and finish makes me drool. Good thing we keep napkins on the table. Hubba Hubba.
And the pedestal base? Let’s just say that she’s got legs and she knows how to use them it.
The chairs are the Valdosta from Wayfair.
Funny story, as I was assembling them, I thought the white looked a bit off. It wasn’t a bright white as I had envisioned…
I double checked the order, and saw that it was ‘grey’. What the!? I was annoyed that they had sent me the wrong colour until I checked online and saw that I HAD CHOSEN THAT SHADE IN THE CHECKOUT. Hand slap to forehead moment. BUT, I quickly realized that I actually liked the shade – probably even more than a true, stark white. The tone was just so subtly off-white that in the end it was a total happy accident.
The chairs were really easy to put together. And the finish on them is beautiful. It’s a nice matte/satin finish.
We’ve been so happy with the change and it is SO nice to all sit together for dinner each night without an impromptu game of musical chairs.
Let’s stay connected!
