Valentine’s Day is almost upon us, so what better time to break out the glitter and glue and show some DIY L.O.V.E? Read on to find out how fast and easily you can create this sparkly craft for yourself (that’s sure to evoke all the heart eyes)!
Speaking of eyes, are you seeing double? The cool thing about this art is that the hearts are not only on the art print, but repeated again on the frame glass – in glitter! The result is a cool 3-D effect when you look at the art from different angles.
Want to make your own? It’s as easy as 1-2-3 L-O-V-E!
Supplies:
• free downloadable art print (download below)
• glitter (four varying shades of pink) – I used this Martha Stewart glitter because I love how fine it is and it comes in so many shades.
• glue with a fine (small) application tip – similar to this or this
• scissors
• 9″ x 9″ shadow box picture frame – I used this IKEA ribba frame
• piece of paper (for collecting the excess glitter and putting it back into each container)
• scotch tape
• small, soft brush (optional)
STEP ONE:
Download and print Valentine’s Day art print (download link below image). I’d recommend printing on a white cover stock (heavy weight paper).
STEP TWO:
Trim along the top and bottom dotted lines so that your artwork is now 9″ deep.
STEP THREE:
Disassemble the shadow box frame and tape your artwork to the glass (it’s actually a plastic but you get the idea). Make sure to remove the plastic protection film that comes on the front AND back of the ‘glass’ first!
STEP FOUR:
Carefully trace the outline of one heart with your glue and then fill in the shape.
STEP FIVE:
Sprinkle on some love glitter!
I matched the colour of glitter to each heart. The glitter shades I used are called: (Martha Stewart) Rose Quartz, Kunzite, Amethyst and Sugilite.
Next, fold a spare piece of paper in half. Tap the excess glitter off the glass and onto the paper. Use the fold as ‘funnel’ to guide the extra glitter back into its container.
STEP SIX:
Repeat the glue and glitter steps for the three remaining hearts.
STEP SEVEN:
Once dry, remove the art off of the frame glass. Using a small brush, dust off any excess glitter. Reassemble the shadow box frame, placing the art print at the back, under the mat with the 5″ x 5″ opening. The newly glittered glass goes in the front of the frame. The space between the frame and the art makes a cool 3-D artwork effect.
And that’s it! Now go and get some cinnamon hearts and congratulate yourself on a job well done!
