It’s’ been a while, but, well, pandemic. And speaking of that, there’s nothing like staring at the same space every day – all day – to make you get the itch. You know the one, the one that makes you want to refresh your space!
When we last left off in our family room, it was looking pretty good, but it still wasn’t quite right…
Last year, we shared how we painted our family room. It made a huge improvement over how it looked before, but the coffee table, dark chair and blue rug still weren’t quite working together. Now, don’t get me wrong, they weren’t bad, but they also weren’t quite right. The club chair was too heavy, the coffee table didn’t quite work, style-wise, in the space (although I liked it fine as a coffee table) and the rug, although nice, wasn’t playing well with the other elements in the room.
However – it was still WAY better than how it looked in 2015, a few months after we’d moved in (which was NEVER right).
Anyway, as you can see, by the time early 2020 had rolled around, we had vastly improved this space. BUT, after our quarantine updates, it’s looking much more at home… in our home!
I will link all of the sources at the end of this post, but one of the first things we did was update the area rug.
The next update was to our coffee table. We sold our old one on Facebook marketplace and replaced it with a new one, full of character, warmth and charm.
The chair was a huge upgrade as the leather club chair was not very comfortable, and was cold on top of that. I wanted something cosy and warm and COMFY. The Sadie armchair from Urban Barn was a perfect fit.
One of the best features about this chair is that it rocks AND swivels. We have an open concept kitchen/family room area so having this chair allows you to swivel and chat to people in the kitchen as well. It is the best!
And can I mention again how comfy it is. I love it.
We didn’t change our couch at all and I’m happy to report, Belle still approves.
It’s worth noting, we actually bought this couch used from Craigslist (about four or five years ago) but it’s the Lure sofa from Urban Barn and it is amazing. All of the covers come off and are machine washable. They wash really well and are (decently) easy to get back onto the cushions.
Now that we had the comfiest chair ever, we needed a spot to rest our feet. Enter this cute little moroccan pouf from Wayfair.
We also added some life in the form of this new plant. It brought some much needed vibrance to the space. Now I want to add plants to all the rooms!
The room feels lighter, brighter and fresher than it did before. Which is great, because after the year we’ve all had, couldn’t we all use a little bit of something uplifting in our day-to-day!?
